About MacKenzies Restaurant

The History of MacKenzies Restaurant

The restaurant is named after the famous Henry MacKenzie, an Edinburgh born lawyer and writer, who lived in the cottage adjacent to the restaurant.

He is best known for his novel ‘The Man of Feeling’.

MacKenzie, while editor of a short lived periodical ” The Lounger” wrote an article in December issue 1786, praising Robert Burns poems. This helped to make Robert Burns a well known name in literary circles.

Burns himself regarded ‘The Man of Feeling’ as “a book I prize next to the Bible”.
